License: Required Certifications: ACLS, Advanced Fetal Monitoring,
BLS, NIHSS, NRP Must-Have: 2 years of current labor and delivery
experience Description: This position requires an experienced labor
and delivery registered nurse. The unit consists of 14 labor and
delivery beds and 2 operating room suites. Triage is conducted
within the labor and delivery unit. There are no postpartum beds
available. The average number of births is 3-4 per day, totaling
approximately 1,100 annually. Staffing ratios adhere to established
guidelines. Registered nurses are required to titrate medications.
Common titratable drips include Pitocin, insulin, and magnesium. An
OB Tech is available to assist on the unit. A physician
specializing in obstetrics is present 24/7. Routine use of
monitoring equipment includes pulse oximeters. There is telemetry
available, with registered nurses responsible for reading strips.
The fetal monitoring system utilized is linked with electronic
records. The nurse will work three shifts weekly and is expected to
work one weekend every other weekend. Holiday requirements include
one major and two minor holidays. There is an on-call requirement
of one shift every two weeks. Scrubs are provided in a light blue
color. A one-day unit-specific orientation is included.
Cancellations may occur for up to 4 shifts during the 13-week
assignment. The charting system used is electronic records.
