Job Description:

Under the general supervision of the clinical director, performs independent comprehensive polysomnographic testing & analysis under the general oversight of a Polysomnographic Technologist. Provides clinical patient care & education to facilitate diagnosis of sleep disorders. Demonstrates performance consistent w/ the Medical Center Vision, Mission, & Strategic Plan of the organization. Remains flexible to changing systems; is expected to demonstrate quality & effectiveness in work habits & clinical practice; & treats co-workers, patients, families, & all members of the health care team w/ dignity & respect. Is expected to complete certification by the American Association of Sleep Technicians w/in two years after entry into Technician classification. Essential Functions:- Explains the procedure & orients patients to the sleep center. Provides patient mobility & bathroom assistance as needed.- Review patient history, physical info, & procedure request.- Gather, review, & document patient info (height, weight, TPR, BP, oxygen saturation, neck circumference, patient photograph, sleep questionnaires, etc.)- Prepares & calibrates equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning.- Applies electrodes & sensors.- Performs appropriate physiologic calibration to ensure proper signals.- Follows policies & procedures for appropriate sleep studies to ensure the collection of appropriate data as directed by supervising polysomnographic technologist(s) &/or other licensed health care professional.- Collects sleep data during the application of PAP & simple oxygen administration limited to nasal cannula interface up to 2 liter per minute of flow.- Follows lights out procedures to establish & document baseline values such as body position, oxygen saturations, respiratory & heart rate, etc.- Performs polysomnographic data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free. Identifies, corrects, & reports signal abnormalities.- Documents routine observations, including sleep stages & clinical events, changes in procedures & other significant events in order to facilitate scoring & interpretation of polysomnographic results.- Follows Lights on procedure to verify the integrity of collected data & completes the data collection process such as instrumental calibrations, impedance checks, & instructs the patient on completing the questionnaire, etc.- Performs routine Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) mask fitting.- Assists w/ polysomnographic record scoring.- Gathers, verifies, analyzes, & documents patient info.- Sets up & demonstrates Home Diagnostic & CPAP units for home testing.- Tracks CPAP compliance & assists w/ CPAP trouble shooting.- Downloads CPAP data including compliance records.- Participates in equipment care, cleaning, & maintenance. Maintains sleep studies supplies & restocks CPAP masks.- Complies w/ all Sleep Center performance expectations.- Demonstrates the knowledge & skills necessary to recognize & provide age specific care.- Utilizes effective communication & interpersonal relationship skills when interacting w/ other members of the health care team or patients. Displays tact & courteous behavior when working w/ staff & patients.- Actively participates in educational programs & staff meetings that are scheduled by Dept.- Promotes, ensures, & improves customer srv to internal/external customers by demonstrating skills which are consistent w/ the organization's philosophy of providing extraordinary customer relations & quality srv.- Complies w/ applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, & standards including but not limited to safety & infection control issues.- Upholds KP's policies & procedures, Principles of Responsibilities & applicable state, federal, & local laws.- Complies w/ the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologist's (BPRT) Standards of Conduct. Basic Qualifications: Experience N/A Education Successful completion of a polysomnography program of no less than one year duration associated with a state licensed and/or Accredited educational facility or equivalent experience. Successful completion of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine A-Step on-line course. High school Diploma or equivalent if not a graduate of an associate's degree program of polysomnography or successful completion of an accredited educational program leading to an associate of science degree with emphasis in polysomnography. License, Certification, Registration Current Basic Life Support (BLS) card Current registration as a Polysomnographic Technician or Technologist with the California Medical Board.
